To prepare Churma Ladoo, a traditional Indian sweet, you will need the following ingredients:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup whole wheat flour (atta)
- 1/4 cup semolina (sooji)
- 1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)
- 1/2 cup powdered jaggery or sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 2 tablespoons chopped nuts (cashews, almonds, pistachios, etc.)
- Ghee or oil for frying
For the sugar syrup:
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup powdered jaggery or sugar
Here's a step-by-step guide to making Churma Ladoo:
In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and semolina. Mix well.
Heat ghee in a pan or kadai over medium heat. Add the flour-semolina mixture and roast it on low to medium heat until it turns golden brown and gives off a nutty aroma. Stir continuously to avoid burning. This process may take around 15-20 minutes.
Remove the roasted mixture from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
Once the mixture is slightly cooled, transfer it to a mixer or food processor. Pulse it a few times to break down any lumps and achieve a coarse texture.
In a separate pan, prepare the sugar syrup. Add water and jaggery or sugar to the pan and heat it over medium heat until the jaggery or sugar dissolves completely. Cook for a few more minutes until the syrup thickens slightly. Keep the sugar syrup warm.
Transfer the coarsely ground mixture back to the mixing bowl. Add powdered jaggery or sugar, cardamom powder, and chopped nuts. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
Gradually pour the warm sugar syrup into the mixture, a little at a time. Mix everything together until the mixture comes together and you can shape it into small ladoos.
Take a small portion of the mixture and shape it into a ball by rolling it between your palms. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
Heat ghee or oil in a small pan for frying. Once the ghee is hot, fry the shaped ladoos in batches until they turn golden brown. Remove them using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
Allow the fried ladoos to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
Churma Ladoo is now ready to be enjoyed. These sweet and crunchy ladoos make for a delicious treat during festivals and special occasions.
