Ingredients

➤½ cup yellow moong dal (split, skinless)

➤1 cup broccoli florets (small pieces)

➤1 small onion (finely chopped) – optional

➤1 tomato (chopped)

➤2 cloves garlic (chopped)

➤1 small piece ginger (grated)

➤½ tsp turmeric powder

➤½ tsp cumin seeds

➤½–1 tsp red chili powder (to taste)

➤½ tsp garam masala (optional)

➤Salt to taste

➤1–2 tbsp oil or ghee

➤2½–3 cups water

➤Fresh coriander leaves

➤Lemon juice (optional)


Preparation


1,Wash & cook dal

Rinse moong dal well.

Pressure cook with turmeric, salt, and water for 2–3 whistles (or cook in a pot until soft).


2,Prepare broccoli

Lightly steam or boil broccoli for 2–3 minutes.

Keep it slightly crunchy (don’t overcook).


3,Make the tempering

Heat oil/ghee in a pan.

Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.

Add garlic and ginger; sauté till fragrant.

Add onions (if using) and cook till light golden.

Add tomatoes, chili powder, and cook till soft.


4,Combine

Add cooked dal to the pan and mix well.

Add broccoli florets.

Simmer for 5–7 minutes so flavors blend.

Add garam masala if using.


5,Finish

Garnish with coriander.

Add a few drops of lemon juice for freshness.

🥣 As a light, comforting soup


Quick Tips

Want it extra nutritious? Add spinach or carrots.

For South Indian flavor, add mustard seeds + curry leaves.

For vegan, use oil instead of ghee.
