Banana Bonda

Banana Bonda, also known as Pazham Pori or Ethakka Appam, is a popular South Indian snack made with ripe bananas. Here's a recipe to prepare Banana Bonda:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas (preferably ripe plantains)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • A pinch of salt
  • A pinch of baking soda (optional)
  • Water, as needed
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

  1. Peel the bananas and cut them into halves or quarters lengthwise, depending on their size.

  2. In a mixing bowl, add all-purpose flour, rice flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda (if using). Mix well to combine the dry ingredients.

  3. Gradually add water to the dry ingredients while whisking continuously to form a smooth batter. The batter should have a slightly thick consistency, similar to pancake batter.

  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadai on medium heat.

  5. Dip each banana piece into the batter, ensuring it is coated well on all sides.

  6. Gently drop the coated banana into the hot oil. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan.

  7. Fry the banana bondas until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides. Flip them occasionally for even frying.

  8. Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried bondas from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

  9. Repeat the process with the remaining banana pieces and batter.

  10. Serve the Banana Bondas hot as a snack with tea or coffee.

Note: The texture of the Banana Bondas is best when the bananas used are ripe but still firm. Ripe plantains work well for this recipe. You can adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste preference. Enjoy your delicious Banana Bonda!
