Banana Kheer

Banana kheer is a delicious Indian dessert made with ripe bananas, milk, sugar, and flavored with cardamom and nuts. It's a creamy and sweet dish that is often served during festivals or special occasions. Here's a simple recipe for banana kheer:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar (adjust according to your taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • A handful of chopped nuts (cashews, almonds, pistachios) for garnish
  • Saffron strands (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Peel the bananas and mash them into a smooth paste using a fork or blender. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, bring the milk to a boil over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  3. Once the milk starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes. Keep stirring occasionally to avoid forming a skin on top of the milk.
  4. Add the mashed bananas to the simmering milk and mix well. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring continuously.
  5. Add the sugar and cardamom powder to the kheer and mix until the sugar dissolves completely. Simmer for another 5 minutes.
  6. Turn off the heat and allow the kheer to cool to room temperature. It will thicken slightly as it cools.
  7. Once the kheer has cooled, refrigerate it for at least a couple of hours.
  8. Before serving, garnish the banana kheer with chopped nuts and a few saffron strands for added flavor and visual appeal.

Enjoy your homemade banana kheer chilled as a delightful dessert!
