Banana kheer is a delicious Indian dessert made with ripe bananas, milk, sugar, and flavored with cardamom and nuts. It's a creamy and sweet dish that is often served during festivals or special occasions. Here's a simple recipe for banana kheer:
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe bananas
- 4 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sugar (adjust according to your taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- A handful of chopped nuts (cashews, almonds, pistachios) for garnish
- Saffron strands (optional)
Instructions:
- Peel the bananas and mash them into a smooth paste using a fork or blender. Set aside.
- In a large saucepan, bring the milk to a boil over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
- Once the milk starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes. Keep stirring occasionally to avoid forming a skin on top of the milk.
- Add the mashed bananas to the simmering milk and mix well. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring continuously.
- Add the sugar and cardamom powder to the kheer and mix until the sugar dissolves completely. Simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and allow the kheer to cool to room temperature. It will thicken slightly as it cools.
- Once the kheer has cooled, refrigerate it for at least a couple of hours.
- Before serving, garnish the banana kheer with chopped nuts and a few saffron strands for added flavor and visual appeal.
Enjoy your homemade banana kheer chilled as a delightful dessert!
