Bheja masala is a delicious Indian dish made with goat brain as the main ingredient. Here's a simple recipe to prepare bheja masala:
Ingredients:
- 250 grams goat brain (bheja)
- 2 medium-sized onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
- Cooking oil
Instructions:
- Clean the goat brain thoroughly under running water. Remove any blood vessels or membranes attached to it. Then, soak the brain in cold water for about 30 minutes to remove any impurities.
- In a pan, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies to the pan. Sauté for a minute or until the raw smell of the paste disappears.
- Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan and cook until they become soft and mushy.
- Now, add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes to let the spices release their flavors.
- Meanwhile, drain the soaked brain and rinse it with fresh water once again.
- Gently add the brain to the pan and mix it with the masala. Be careful not to break the brain pieces.
- Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan. Let it cook for about 10-15 minutes or until the brain is cooked and tender.
- Sprinkle garam masala over the brain masala and give it a gentle stir.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with naan, roti, or rice.
Remember, bheja masala is a unique and acquired taste, so it may not be everyone's cup of tea. However, if you enjoy the flavors of Indian spices and are open to trying something different, give it a go!
