Chicken Tikka

 Chicken tikka is a popular Indian dish known for its flavorful and tender chicken. It's relatively easy to prepare at home. Here's a simple recipe for chicken tikka:



Ingredients:

  • 1.5 pounds (700 grams) boneless, skinless chicken breast or thigh, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons tikka masala spice mix (available in Indian grocery stores or you can make your own)
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste (or 1 teaspoon each of grated ginger and minced garlic)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust according to your spice preference)
  • Salt to taste
  • Skewers for grilling

For garnish:

  • Fresh cilantro (coriander) leaves, chopped
  • Lemon wedges

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, lemon juice, vegetable oil, tikka masala spice mix, ginger-garlic paste, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well to form a smooth marinade.

  2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight. This will allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.

  3. If you're using wooden skewers, soak them in water for about 20-30 minutes. This helps prevent them from burning during grilling.

  4. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

  5. Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the skewers, leaving a little space between each piece.

  6. If grilling: Place the chicken skewers on the preheated grill. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred on the outside.

    If using the oven: Place the skewers on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and slightly browned.

  7. Once cooked, remove the chicken tikka from the skewers and transfer to a serving platter.

  8. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro (coriander) leaves and serve hot with lemon wedges on the side.
