Egg biryani is a delicious and flavorful rice dish that incorporates boiled eggs and aromatic spices. It's a popular variation of biryani, which is a traditional Indian dish known for its rich flavors and fragrant rice. Here's a basic recipe to make egg biryani:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups Basmati rice
- 4 hard-boiled eggs
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, slit lengthwise
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon biryani masala powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- A few strands of saffron (optional)
- 1/4 cup warm milk (optional)
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnishing)
- Fresh mint leaves, chopped (for garnishing)
- 3 tablespoons cooking oil or ghee
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- Wash the Basmati rice thoroughly and soak it in water for about 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Heat oil or ghee in a large pot or deep skillet. Add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies to the pot and sauté for another minute.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
- Add the red chili powder, turmeric powder, biryani masala powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes until the spices are well combined.
- Beat the plain yogurt in a bowl and add it to the pot. Stir everything together and cook for a few more minutes.
- Gently place the boiled eggs into the pot, ensuring they are coated with the spice mixture.
- In a separate pot, bring water to a boil and add the soaked and drained Basmati rice. Cook the rice until it is about 70-80% done. Drain the rice and set it aside.
- Layer the partially cooked rice over the egg and spice mixture in the pot. You can optionally sprinkle saffron strands soaked in warm milk on top for an enhanced aroma and color.
- Cover the pot tightly with a lid and cook on low heat for about 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and fluffy.
- Once the biryani is done, gently mix the rice and egg layers together, being careful not to break the eggs.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and mint leaves.
- Serve the delicious egg biryani hot with raita (yogurt sauce), pickle, or salad.
Enjoy your homemade egg biryani! Feel free to adjust the spices and ingredients according to your taste preferences.
