Keema Matar

To prepare Keema Matar, a popular Indian dish made with minced meat and green peas, you can follow the recipe below:

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams minced meat (can be lamb, beef, or chicken)
  • 1 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 medium-sized onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed or finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil or ghee
  • 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 teaspoons red chili powder (adjust according to your preference)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

  2. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.

  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.

  4. Add the pureed or finely chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and the oil starts to separate from the mixture.

  5. Now, add the minced meat to the pan and break it up with a spatula. Cook until the meat changes color and gets cooked through.

  6. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well to coat the meat evenly with the spices.

  7. Cook the mixture for a few minutes until the spices are well incorporated and the flavors are enhanced.

  8. Add the green peas to the pan and mix them with the meat. You can add a little water if needed.

  9. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let the Keema Matar simmer for about 10-15 minutes or until the peas are cooked and the flavors meld together.

  10. Finally, sprinkle garam masala over the dish and give it a final stir.

  11. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

Your Keema Matar is now ready to be served. It pairs well with rice, roti (Indian bread), or naan. Enjoy your meal!
