Sarson Machhi

Sure! Sarson Machhi is a popular Indian dish made with mustard sauce and fish. Here's a recipe to prepare Sarson Machhi:

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams fish fillets (any firm white fish like cod or tilapia)
  • 2 tablespoons mustard oil
  • 2 tablespoons mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies, slit lengthwise
  • 1 cup mustard greens (sarson leaves), finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

For the marinade:

  • 1 tablespoon mustard oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Clean and wash the fish fillets. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the ingredients for the marinade - mustard oil, lemon juice, turmeric powder, and salt. Coat the fish fillets with this marinade and let them sit for about 15-20 minutes.
  3. In a pan, heat mustard oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and add turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Stir well to combine the spices with the oil.
  5. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies to the pan. Cook for a minute until the raw smell of the ginger-garlic paste goes away.
  6. Add the chopped mustard greens (sarson leaves) to the pan and cook until they wilt down.
  7. Place the marinated fish fillets on top of the mustard greens in the pan. Spoon some of the mustard sauce over the fish.
  8. Cover the pan and cook on low heat for about 10-15 minutes or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  9. Once cooked, gently transfer the fish to a serving dish, spoon the mustard greens and sauce over the fish.
  10. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  11. Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
