French fries

French fries are a classic and popular snack loved by people of all ages. Here's a recipe to make crispy homemade French fries:

Ingredients:

  • 4 large potatoes (preferably Russet or Idaho)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Peel the potatoes and rinse them under cold water to remove any dirt or starch.
  2. Cut the potatoes into long, even-sized sticks, about 1/4 inch thick. You can use a knife or a French fry cutter for this.
  3. Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl and cover them with cold water. Let them soak for about 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.
  4. After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
  5. In the meantime, heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or a deep fryer to about 325°F (165°C). Make sure you have enough oil to completely submerge the fries.
  6. Once the oil reaches the desired temperature, carefully add a small batch of the dried potato sticks to the hot oil. Be cautious as the oil may splatter.
  7. Fry the potatoes in batches for about 4-5 minutes or until they turn pale golden and slightly soft. Do not overcrowd the pan as it can lower the temperature of the oil and result in soggy fries.
  8. Using a slotted spoon or a spider skimmer, remove the partially cooked fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined tray to drain excess oil.
  9. Increase the heat of the oil to about 375°F (190°C).
  10. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the partially cooked fries back into the oil in batches. Fry them for another 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  11. Again, use a slotted spoon or spider skimmer to remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined tray.
  12. Immediately sprinkle the hot French fries with salt, adjusting the amount to your taste preference. Toss them gently to evenly coat the fries with salt.
  13. Serve the French fries hot and crispy as a snack or as a side dish with ketchup, mayonnaise, or any dipping sauce of your choice.

Note: Remember to exercise caution while working with hot oil to prevent any accidents. It's also important to ensure the oil is at the right temperature for crispy and evenly cooked French fries.

Enjoy your homemade crispy French fries!
