Certainly! Jaljeera is a refreshing and tangy Indian drink that is perfect for hot summer days. It is made with a blend of various spices and herbs that give it a unique flavor. Here's a recipe to prepare Jaljeera:
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons cumin seeds (jeera)
- 2 tablespoons dried mint leaves (pudina)
- 1 tablespoon dry mango powder (amchur)
- 1 teaspoon black salt
- 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
- 1 tablespoon tamarind pulp (optional)
- 4 cups chilled water
- Ice cubes (optional)
- Fresh mint leaves for garnishing
- Lemon wedges for garnishing
Instructions:
Dry roast the cumin seeds in a pan over medium heat until they become fragrant and slightly darker in color. Remove them from heat and let them cool.
In a blender or spice grinder, add the roasted cumin seeds, dried mint leaves, dry mango powder, black salt, roasted cumin powder, ginger powder, black pepper powder, red chili powder, and tamarind pulp (if using). Grind them together into a fine powder.
Transfer the powdered spice mixture to a mixing bowl.
Add chilled water to the bowl and whisk the mixture well until all the spices are dissolved and well combined. You can adjust the water quantity according to your preferred consistency.
Strain the Jaljeera mixture using a fine sieve or cheesecloth to remove any coarse particles. This will give it a smooth texture.
Pour the strained Jaljeera into glasses. If desired, you can add a few ice cubes to each glass.
Garnish the Jaljeera with fresh mint leaves and lemon wedges.
Your refreshing Jaljeera is now ready to be served. Stir the drink well before drinking to ensure that the spices are evenly distributed. It can be enjoyed as a standalone beverage or as a side drink with snacks like samosas or pakoras. Cheers!
