Laddu, also known as laddoo, is a popular Indian sweet made from various ingredients like flour, nuts, and sugar. Here's a recipe to prepare a basic version of sweet laddu:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup besan (gram flour)
- 1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios)
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- Optional: a pinch of saffron strands for flavor and color
Instructions:
Heat ghee in a pan or kadai on low to medium heat.
Add the besan to the pan and roast it on low heat, stirring continuously to avoid burning. Roast until the besan turns golden brown and releases a nutty aroma. This process will take about 10-15 minutes.
Remove the pan from heat and let the roasted besan cool down for a few minutes.
In a separate bowl, mix the powdered sugar, chopped nuts, cardamom powder, and saffron strands (if using).
Once the roasted besan has cooled down slightly, add it to the sugar and nut mixture. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into round laddus by gently rolling and pressing between your palms. If the mixture feels dry and crumbly, you can add a little melted ghee to bind it together.
Repeat the process with the remaining mixture until all the laddus are formed.
Allow the laddus to cool completely and firm up before serving or storing them in an airtight container.
Sweet laddus are ready to be enjoyed as a delicious Indian dessert or snack. They can be stored at room temperature for several days.
