Ingredients:

For the Pastry:

➤1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)

➤1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

For the Chocolate Filling:

➤4 ounces (about 113 grams) good-quality dark chocolate (bittersweet or semisweet), chopped into          small pieces

➤2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Chocolate Filling:

➤In a heatproof bowl, melt the chopped dark chocolate either in a microwave at 20-30 second                     intervals    or using a double boiler. Stir until smooth.

➤Add the softened butter to the melted chocolate and mix until well combined. Set aside to cool                slightly.

2. Prepare the Pastry:

➤If using store-bought puff pastry, follow the package instructions for thawing (if frozen). If using            homemade puff pastry, roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/8-inch thick.

3. Cut the Pastry:

➤Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the pastry into rectangles, approximately 3x5 inches in size.       The size can vary depending on your preference.

4. Assemble the Pain au Chocolat:

➤Place a small amount of the chocolate filling along the length of each pastry rectangle.

➤Roll up each rectangle, starting from the shorter end, enclosing the chocolate filling. Place the seam        side down.

5. Brush with Egg Wash:

➤Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

➤Brush the tops of the pain au chocolat with the beaten egg. This will give them a beautiful golden          color when baked.

6. Bake:

➤Place the pain au chocolat on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space                  between each one.

➤ Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are puffed up and golden brown.

7. Cool and Serve:

➤Allow the pain au chocolat to cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.

➤Enjoy your homemade pain au chocolat while they are still warm and the chocolate filling is gooey        and delicious!

These chocolate-filled pastries make a wonderful breakfast treat or a delightful snack with a cup of coffee or tea. You can also sprinkle some powdered sugar on top for an extra touch of sweetness, if desired.
