Beetroot Poori recipe
Ingredients:
➤ 2 cups whole wheat flour
➤ 1 cup grated beetroot
➤ 1 tablespoon semolina (optional)
➤ Salt to taste
➤ Water, as needed
➤ Oil, for deep frying
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Beetroot Puree:
a. Steam or boil the grated beetroot until it becomes soft.
b. Once cooked, blend the beetroot into a smooth puree. You can add a little water if needed.
2. Make the Dough:
a. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, semolina (if using), and salt.
b. Add the beetroot puree to the flour mixture gradually, kneading it into a smooth and pliable dough. Adjust the consistency with water if necessary.
c. Let the dough rest for about 15-20 minutes, covering it with a damp cloth.
3. Shape the Pooris:
a. Pinch off small portions of the dough and roll them into balls.
b. Roll each ball into a small disc using a rolling pin. Make sure not to roll them too thin.
4. Fry the Pooris:
a. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadai over medium heat.
b. Once the oil is hot, gently slide in the rolled poori.
c. Press the poori gently with the back of a ladle. This helps the poori to puff up.
d. When the poori puffs up, flip it to the other side and fry until both sides are golden brown.
e. Remove the poori from the oil using a slotted spoon and place it on paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
5. Repeat:
a. Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls.
6. Serve:
a. Serve the vibrant Beetroot Pooris hot with your favorite side dishes like potato curry, chana masala, or any other curry of your choice.
These Beetroot Pooris not only add a burst of color to your meal but also offer a unique and healthy twist to the traditional poori. Enjoy!
