Mangalore Buns (Sweet Banana Buns) recipe
Ingredients:
➤2 overripe bananas
➤2 cups all-purpose flour
➤1/2 cup sugar (adjust according to your sweetness preference)
➤1/4 cup yogurt
➤1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter)
➤1/2 teaspoon baking soda
➤1/4 teaspoon salt
➤Oil for frying
Instructions:
1.Peel and mash the overripe bananas in a large mixing bowl.
2. Add sugar to the mashed bananas and mix well until the sugar dissolves.
3. Next, add yogurt and ghee to the banana mixture. Mix until well combined.
4. In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, stirring continuously to form a soft and sticky dough. You can add more flour if the dough is too sticky.
6. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
7. Place the dough in a bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rest for at least 2 hours. This allows the dough to ferment and rise.
8. After the resting period, heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
9. Pinch small portions of the dough and shape them into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
10. Roll out each ball into a thick disc, similar to a puri.
11. Carefully slide the rolled dough into the hot oil and fry until both sides are golden brown. Make sure the oil is not too hot to prevent burning.
12. Remove the fried buns from the oil and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
13. Serve the Mangalore Buns warm with coconut chutney, pickle, or a cup of tea.
Enjoy your delicious Mangalore Buns!
